I started the Wedding Guide in Toronto, where I was residing back in 1990. The first issue was the most profitable and largest one in the franchise's history and to date has not been broken. Today, we are the area's official bridal planner and interactive website. Now serving local brides for over 16 years, I have loved every minute of this journey and like being called the Wedding Lady, who knows!
Moving home to Windsor with my 4 year old and my husband John, we started the guide here and also opened Barter Business Exchange- an oganized barter company. We were kept busy and also helped to launch the 1st Buskers Fest in this area. It started in my living room as a dream and came to fruition and continues today after we have long stepped back.
In 1993, we joined up with Bluesfest International, a fledgling festival that started on Main Sreet, where Ouellette and Park street cross. The restaurant on the corner where Birks Jewellers, always a carriage trade business had formerly stood for years was owned by Bluesfest innovator, Ted Boomer. The name of the spot was Johnny Canucks, a fun-filled bar with food that was more than respectable and talent that was a treat.
I have helped found the Canada South Festival Network, a not-for-profit that has over 44 members representing over 60 events annually in Windsor/Essex County. I was given an award of recognition by this group in 2009 for my contribution to the festival industry.
For over 2 years, I served as VP of the ACWR and then, for a short stint as president. Moving on, I have concentrated on menoring women who require less meetings and I don't have to sit on committees. LOL
I am also a founding member of the Canada South Blues Society, a group that grew out of Bluesfest that wanted events all year round. With approximately 350 members, it has the Canada South Blues Museum at Place Concorde; the only one in Canada. See it sometime- it's filled with memorabilia and great pictures of some of the finest blues talent around.
I write a bi-monthly column in Biz X Magazine called Art Matters, which speaks to art and business and their symbiotic relationship.
In February 09 I was chosen as the 1st Deserving Diva from a great website
www.deservingdivas.com and have meet some great women online!
I believe that hard work, great friends and a loving and caring family have provided me with the motiviation to always do more for others. My corporate training from Royal Doulton, Denby, Bowrings, Eatons and some other small independent stores has given me great tools for life and decision making.
I have energy to burn and passion to burn that energy. I would love to establish an arts incubator in our dwontown region as well as continue with the work I am currently doing. It just feels right.
